About

this website

This is a personal website to keep my notes on what i find interesting about web development or photography. It's not strictly a weblog because I dont write every single day. Until version two it's been basically an experimental playground on dhtml. It'll keep being, but now the experiment wont be the site itself but its contents.

Lately, my concept of what dhtml is has changed drastically. I think dhtml is only an enhacement in page usability. It has nothing to do with flying layers nor weird scrollers. Dhtml has to be accessible, add some interaction with user but without javascript being requiered to make those enhacements invisible.

I also abandoned javascirpt libraries. Still using it but now i just add the needed functions for each situation. I'm more selective. In this version i use it to add tables of content to the page sections, validate forms, improve presentation and information of cite blocks, etc. All that in an invisible way to the user, once all contents have been loaded. And being able to disable all effects using the form in preferences section (link at the bottom of all pages). That's all this web will be about from now on.

this version

To being able to explain this and other concepts I needed some more space and a lighter background than the one in previous versión. Not that I dont like it, at that time (2002) it was one of the few using unobtrusive dhtml, but this time I wanted something quite different: subtle effects, more space to write example codes and ease of reading. I needed a way to add more text without being limited by the height of the scroller.

Content management system has been rewritten from scratch too. Now it's much more powerful, flexible, and lets me add links, pictures, notes and modify texts, delete comments, etc. All of a weblog system but custom made for two reasons: being able to using two languages and also mix the weblog with the photography section. In this case we also added a module that lets us add images from any computer with connection, and modify its size, color, framing, etc. without propietary software.

zigotica

Some will notice the lack of the portfolio section. Since this site will be about personal issues I moved that part to my commercial website: zigotica, where you will find a detailed description of my services and my finished works.

aknowledgements

I would like to thank some of my friends that helped me evolve in this freaks world. Dan Pupius, Michael van Ouwerkerk, Tom Trenka and Dave Schontzler for their ideas and help to improve my programming skills. I also stole Dave's image to denote external link. Pedro and Tito for those nice talks and encouraging me to take this web stuff seriously. I also have some future projects with Pedro, like the renaissance of gen7es (among many other things). Keep tunning cause this 2004 will bring many surprises. Simon Willison for his unobtrusive dhtml ideas. Anders for his advices and hosting. The brushes used to make the header image were found in nocturna. And last but not least domestika for being such a cool sect.
